  • Title: About | Kokonga Herefords
Descriptive info: Kokonga Farm is situated in the Waiketetu Valley on the West Coast, west of Huntly and north of Hamilton.. Kokonga Farm is a total of 1296 hectares, which farms approximately 3,500 ewes, 1,100 cattle along with our 130 cow breeding herd.. Kokonga Hereford stud was established in 2004 and is committed to building a sound, functional, high performing herd of cows displaying constitution, milking ability and fertility.. We were extremely fortunate to acquire females from the well renowned Leelands stud from Hawkes Bay as our original.. foundation.. In 2011 we have added cows from the dispersals of the long standing Wando and Awhea studs together with a number of selected incalf heifers from the Waikaka herd.. In 2012 we have added 24 in-calf heifers, from the Okawa Stud which further strengthen our herd.. Our aim at Kokonga is to produce a line of sound, easy doing young bulls that display constitution and growth from moderate birth weights.. With these goals in mind we have embarked on a defined breeding program by selecting and purchasing several top sires to take the herd forward:.. 2009 Purchased Waikaka Commodore 0769, ‘Supreme Champion Hereford’ at Beef Expo 2009 (the second sons in this year s sale offering).. An extremely long, dark, soft skinned bull with great markings and beautiful temperament.. 2010 Purchased Leelands Digital 883, ‘Supreme Champion Hereford and Champion of Champions’ at Beef Expo 2010.. (First sons available this season).. A  ...   strong muscled bull with great temperament which will give depth to our bull program.. Also in 2012 we purchased two proven five year old Bulls from Kaonui Stud.. Limehills Bedford 07 902 a bull that performed so well on their heifers that they used him on their mature cows.. His progeny have length, smoothness and stand on very good feet.. Bedford is in the top 10% of the breed for IMF % EBV AND Hereford Prime % Index.. We also purchased Koanui Display 7214.. This bull is what s called very safe with great carcase figures.. Display 7214 is a very easy fleshing bull, soft skinned, good head and eye set from a top breeding cow.. He is a Sire Trait Leader for low Birth Weight EBV.. 2013 we purchased 26 in calf heifers from Okawa to add more bones to our herd.. 2013 we purchased Kairuru Ironside 110047 in partnership with Orari Gorge.. This Bull has a real sire s presence, with thickness right through and down into the second thigh.. Top growth, maternal and carcass EBV s from a birth weight of 34 kg.. Our breeding program is now well underway and the objectives of providing young sires that the industry requires has begun.. We value your feedback and welcome your inspection.. In 2012 we won the Countdown Fresh Merchandising Excellence Award 2012.. Farm Suppier Of The Year.. This award recognises excellence within the New Zealand Supermarket industry..

  • Title: News | Kokonga Herefords
Descriptive info: Read the latest article from The Waikato Times on Kokonga.. Click any of the below links to read the article.. A lot of bull set for a Waikato home.. It s a record-priced bovine that is, in the words of its purchaser, The complete bull.. Called Okawa Major, the hereford bull was recently bought by North Waikato stud breeders Bruce and Pip Robinson for $55,000 from David Morrow s Okawa Stud in Mid Canterbury in early June.. That price set a national record for hereford sales in 2014.. The Robinsons will use the bull on their farm, the Kokonga Hereford Stud for many years to come.. The Robinsons bought the bull from David Morrow s Okawa Stud in Mid Canterbury in June.. It s got plenty of length and it will grow into a decent bull and it s got carcass as well.. He s everything we want in a bull and everything we want to breed in a bull.. Every time I see him, the more I like him, Pip Robinson said.. The father and son s stud farm is in the Waikaretu Valley on the North Island s west coast, west of Huntly.. It is 1296 hectares and farms 3500 ewes, 1100 cattle along with their 130 cow breeding herd.. Its estimated breeding values, which are used as a guide by farmers when they purchase a bull were also outstanding.. There was also a lot  ...   prefix (stud name) was in bulls all over the country and in cow herds in the South Island.. He s just a fantastic operator.. His philosophy on cattle is what we want to mirror.. He s got a real focus on his cow herd.. Like Morrow, Robinson believed that if he produced a great cow herd, then good bulls would be a byproduct of that.. He s got high milking cows and high fertility, it should rear great calves which turn into great bulls.. He s doing that and he s done it.. Fairfax NZ.. Annual Bull Sale.. Our annual bull sale was held on the 11th of September at Frankton with 33 bulls on offer.. There was a very good turnout of buyers from previous years and numbers were swelled by a lot of new buyers.. It was pleasing to get good feedback regarding the condition of the bulls as we felt this was our best offering to date.. The average price of $2000 represented very good buying.. Congratulations to those successful bidders on the day.. Countdown Commerical:.. Countdown recently shot a commercial using their presenter, Jax from Masterchef, on Kokonga Farm.. Countdown has been sourcing early season, tender, succulent lamb from Kokonga for some time.. This commercial forms part of a series where Jax visits suppliers of fresh food to Countdown to see just what makes the produce the best in the market.. Kokonga Newsletter:..
